Growing

Its really not difficult to grow Goji Berry Plants from seeds, but a bit of planning will defiantly help improve your end results. Start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost date in your area.

Plant about 1/4 inch deep, in your planting medium; peat pots, flats, small pots with sterile seed starting material all work fine

Water lightly and keep consistently moist until germination occurs. If the seeds dry out, they will die. If you use pots you can cover them with a plastic bag to help maintain the soil moisture but be sure to remove once plants appear.

Full light and cooler temperatures (60 to 70°F) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. After the seeds have germinated, place them in a location that receives a lot of light.

Transplant into garden when seedlings have 2nd true leaves and ensure no frosts.

Unique among fruits because they contain all essential amino acids, goji berries also have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit. They are also loaded with vitamin C, contain more carotenoids than any other food, have twenty-one trace minerals, and are high in fiber. Boasting 15 times the amount of iron found in spinach, as well as calcium, zinc, selenium and many other important trace minerals, there is no doubt that the humble goji berry is a nutritional powerhouse.

Goji berries are perrenial and wil lloose there leaves in winter they are frost hardy onc eestablished

One of my favourite vegetables is winter spinach, also known as English spinach. Spinach is rich in vitamins A, C, and E, folic acid, magnesium, iron, fibre, and contains some vitamin B6. It has a more delicate flavour than silver beet and, unlike silver beet, it can be frozen for use during warmer months. Winter spinach loves cold weather and a well-fertilised soil containing plenty of compost. and harvesting can begin 8 weeks after sowing seed. From then on, leaves of all varieties of spinach must be harvested every day or two, or the plants will bolt to seed.

HEIRLOOM Strawberry Spinach
Strawberry Spinach Description
Chenopodium capitatum 50 days.
Unusual and doubly enjoyable first as an edible green and later, the berries. Triangular, pleasantly textured, green leaves have spiky edges and grow in attractive, open rosettes. Mature plants produce berry-like, 1/2 inch, enjoyably nutty, ruby-colored fruit. Plants are heat loving for an excellent addition to summer salads
This is a very rare ancient vegetable dating back 400 years! It was rediscovered at old monasteries in Europe. It is similar to Lamb's Quarters in habit, although smaller. Grows 1 1/2 Feet high. Triangular, toothed leaves are thinner than spinach, very nutritious and high in vitamins. The tender shoots are used in salads or cooked like spinach. But the real surprise is that at each leaf axle there is an abundance of sweet, strawberry-like fruits which some say resemble mulberries. Will reseed vigorously.

WATERCRESS

Watercress has risen to a starring role in elaborate culinary preparations and is as beneficial for the health as much as the palate. It may be used as a garnish, in salads and sandwiches, added to herb butters, dressings, casseroles, soups and sauces for fish, and are also made into refreshing and nourishing teas.
Watercress leaves have a lovely mustardy bite that makes them natural bedfellows to strongly flavoured meats such as game. The leaves are most commonly served raw as a garnish to eggs or meat, or as part of a salad with orange segments. Watercress also makes a pleasingly peppery soup that is as good hot as it is chilled.
Although usually grown commercially in water, watercress can be grown in the garden soil provided it is given plenty of water and will crop from early summer till around Christmas if protected with cloches during cold spells.
You can also grow it in a container stood in a saucer of water. Plant 3 to 4 plants to a 30cm (12in) tub or pot and stand in a container with about 2 to 3in of water, in the shade. Keep the water constantly topped up to this level. The important thing to remember is to ensure the soil remains soaked at all times and to changing the water for fresh each day to avoid fungal infections.
